Assistant Retail Designer

About

Our client is a well-established retail brand with over 40 years’ industry experience. With over 2200 stores globally, they pride themselves on providing customers with the latest products from the very best brands using creative and innovative merchandising.

Now looking for an Assistant Retail Designer, to join the Property Design team and play a key role in the expansion across Europe.

Job Role

  • Assist the lead designer within agreed territory, taking projects from brief through to completion
  • Liaising with key project stakeholders at varying stages of projects, working closely with internal departments
  • Coordinate meetings to present store designs and obtain approval / feedback
  • Attend site meetings; talking through the design with the project delivery team, check surveys and record site information, ensuring all data is up to date in all documentation
  • Set up drawings in AutoCAD using landlords or survey information ensuring all work is accurate
  • Space plan merchandise layouts using a design brief and option targets
  • Production of detailed plans, shop fronts, sections and elevations for proposed store designs and site-specific details where required
  • Liaise with external professional agencies such as architects, MEP and structural engineers, permitting departments in order to obtain statutory approvals
  • Offer assistance and support to the global design studio to support workload in other regions as / when time permits
  • Partner with the graphics team to deliver project specific designs

Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Architectural Technology or other relevant qualification
  • Practical experience within the design/architecture or construction sector is required
  • Detailed understanding of construction / shop fitting, coupled with a strong understanding of permit and building regulations
  • An interest in the use and specification of sustainable materials and construction methods
  • Expert in visual rendering and 3D modelling, with adept skills in AutoCAD and SketchUp
  • Proficient in the use of Adobe CS and Microsoft office
  • Good spatial awareness and the ability to visualise the design of a store
  • Ability to interpret briefs accurately and work efficiently to deadlines
  • Have a proactive approach using design to problem solve within a team
  • Good presentation and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to manage their own time
  • Prepared to travel nationally and internationally, holding a full driving licence and valid passport
