This well-established brand has over 30 years’ experience as the leading UK specialist multiple retailer of branded and own labelled sportswear. With over 800 stores globally, they pride themselves on providing customers with the latest products from the very best brands using creative and innovative merchandising.

Now looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join their property team. Reporting to the Group Quantity Surveyor, the successful applicant will manage costs, risks and procurement for projects throughout Europe. Due to the territories covered in this role, you will ideally be based in Italy, Poland or the Netherlands and be willing to commute.

Job role

  • Manage all commercial aspects of the end to end project cycle of new stores, re-fits and extensions
  • Manage and coordinate the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants
  • Contribute to the successful co-ordination and management of the capital investment plan to deliver programmes, projects and initiatives of varying size and complexity
  • Implement a cost reduction strategy within the Property Department
  • Drive the value engineering strategy across all store formats, without compromising operational efficiency
  • Proactively look to drive cost, time and wasted effort out of construction
  • Manage the project feasibility process from initial proposal through scoping and option studies to Board approval of funding
  • Carry out site visit to ascertain constraints and identify risks
  • Ascertain brief and scope of work from other departments
  • Develop and employ modelling and estimating techniques to provide accurate rates and costs for an annual spend of up to €30m, across a variety of different types and sizes of new and refurbishment retail projects
  • Develop and manage procurement techniques to suit the types and quantum of projects
  • Conduct tender processes, including preparation, evaluation and detailed recommendations
  • Adopt a consistent approach to the contractual engagement of all consultants, suppliers and contractors
  • Ensure a timely appointment, including agreement of fees and an appropriately specified level of services and activities
  • Monitor the financial progress of individual projects through regular communication and reports
  • Agree final accounts with all contractors, consultants and suppliers
  • Develop and maintain accurate benchmark costs across outdoor fascias & gyms and individual cost elements
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors

Skills and Experience

  • Must have experience of quantity surveying and cost management within retail construction/shop fitting
  • Knowledge of legislation processes managing projects up to €2m
  • A member of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Construction Faculty (MRICS) or equivalent
  • Relevant degree or construction cost management qualification would be advantageous.
  • Able to manage multiple, simultaneous projects on time and to a high standard
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Numerate and strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated as well as a team player
  • Technically competent with knowledge of various software programmes
  • Analytical with problem solving capabilities
  • A full European driving license is essential
  • Completely fluent in English (reading, writing and speaking), other languages will be very advantageous to the role
