Our client is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their established design team in a newly created role. Working closely with sales and production teams, this position focuses on turning customer concepts into practical, manufacturable mechanical solutions.

This is a hands-on design role requiring strong mechanical understanding, confidence in how components fit together, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The role combines technical design work with cross-department collaboration, requiring clear communication, commercial awareness, and a practical mindset.

Job Role

  • Produce detailed 2D and 3D mechanical drawings using SolidWorks
  • Collaborate with the sales team to develop mechanical solutions that support new business opportunities
  • Design practical, manufacturable solutions aligned with production and installation capabilities
  • Ensure designs consider installation, maintenance, and lifecycle requirements
  • Provide production teams with clear assembly guidance and technical support
  • Manage multiple projects from concept through to completion
  • Communicate effectively with sales, production, and management teams to ensure smooth delivery
  • Identify opportunities to simplify designs, reduce costs, and improve manufacturability

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience using SolidWorks
  • Strong mechanical design and technical drawing capability
  • Mechanically minded with a solid understanding of fabrication and assembly
  • Experience working in revision-controlled, process-driven design environments
  • Knowledge in some or all of the following areas:
    – Aluminium profile systems
    – Tubular fabrication and welding
    – Sheet timber construction
    – Sheet plastics construction
  • Clear and confident communicator with a collaborative approach
  • Practical, commercially aware mindset
  • Formal engineering qualification beneficial but not essential
  • Electrical and/or LED experience advantageous
  • Confident, grounded personality with pride in workmanship
